What is IIT(Integrated & Intensified Treatment) ?

Don's treatment is quite unique in many ways, and it is called 'IIT (Integrated & Intensified Treatment).'

Let me explain the background of how IIT came about. In Asian countries we have acupuncture treatment roughly between 3 to 5 or even 6 treatments a week for many conditions. Because of some factors like high cost however, most people here go see an acupuncturist once or twice a week at the most. Therefore I felt the strong need to make my treatment intense and thorough in order to see good progress with weekly or bi-weekly treatments.

Over 7 years of experience of treating people here I have found it far more effective when I put quite a few different treatment methods in 1 session than the way we treat people in Asian countries, which is to use just a few (usually 1 to 3) different methods in a session. Unlike other acupuncturists therefore, I stay most of the time during the session with my patients applying a good number of different treatment methods in order to make the treatment more intense and thorough in expectation of fastest recovery or progress possible not only for the soft tissue injuries but for other conditions acute or chronic.

So I usually put between 5 and 8 or even 10 different treatment methods in 1 session (eg. Chinese acupuncture, moxa, tuina, UCLA ear acupuncture, Korean hand acupuncture, heat lamp, cupping, and Korean exercise method), and have seen great results for most of the conditions that I have attended to here in New Zealand. Not only does it make my treatment unique and special but because of it I haven't felt little need to put an ad for new patients while I was practicing in Timaru because of lots of referrals from my old patients and other health practitioners like Doctors, chiropractors, massage therapists, naturopaths, physiotherapists, exercise trainer, etc.

Along with IIT I advise many of my patients about how to look after themselves while they are not with me, and even encourage them to do some self treatment at home (if they are keen) in order for them to save money by shortening the number of whole treatment, prevent secondary injuries and go back to normal life activities as soon as possible.

Do you feel like, "I want to have a go with Don, and see how good he is!"?

Our Services are:

Acupuncture is the main treatment used however other techniques may also be used where appropriate such as moxibustion, patented Chinese herbal formula, tuina(Chinese Therapeutic Massage), cupping, guasha, Chinese Reflexology, Korean Therapeutic Exercise, Korean Hand Acupuncture (only in NZ), UCLA Ear Acupuncture, Taiwanese Acupuncture, infra red, dietary advice, etc.

· Acupuncture

Acupuncture works by stimulating the body to heal inself and regain harmony. Very fine needles are inserted into specific points. There are hundreds of acupuncture points in the body and each one has its own function. Only sterile and disposable needles are used in this clinic.

· Moxibustion (Moxa)

Refers to the warming or heating of individual acupuncture points or regions of the body by burning the herb Artemisia close to or actually on the inserted needle. The heat is able to penetrate deeply into the muscles and essentially strengthens the actions of the needles. By drawing more Qi and Blood into the area, Moxa can greatly aid the healing process. It is the burning of Moxa which gives many acupuncture clinics their characteristic aroma!

· Chinese Medicine (Patented Chinese herbal formula)

Patented Chinese herbal formulas are traditional formulas developed by experts. Often the use of a herbal formula will enhance and complement your acupuncture treatment very much.

· Tuina (Chinese Therapeutic Massage)

Tuina massage techniques include gentle stroking, stimulation of specific acupuncture points, rocking, shaking, kneading, rotating joints, plucking of tendons, etc. This thousands of year old ancient technique is very soothing and relaxing as well as therapeutic. I often incorporate some Tuina massage into my acupuncture sessions.

· Cupping

Cupping is another healing technique to relieve tension or pain. It is a therapy that stimulates the flow of blood and qi to the more superficial layers of our bodies. It promotes circulation therefore reducing stagnation and pain and speeding up the healing process. Cups frequently will leave circular bruises on the skin but these will not be painful and will clear after a few days.

· Guasha

Guasha is a healing technique involving palpation and cutaneous stimulation where the skin is pressured, in strokes, by a round-edged instrument; that may result in the appearance of red marks that will fade in 2 to 3 days.

· Chinese Reflexology

Chinese reflexology is the ancient art of healing by working pressure points on the feet which correspond to different parts of the body. It utilizes energy zones on the feet to energize the body system and provide relief for a variety of illnesses. I use some tools specially made for this purpose to enhance the therapeutic effect on a condition.

· Korean Therapeutic Exercise

Korean Therapeutic Exercise is the techniques that have long been around in Korea, well known for its most therapeutic effect on alignment of spine, hip joints, pelvis and even foot shape.

· Korean Hand Acupuncture (unique in NZ)

Korean Hand Acupuncture theorizes that the hands are a micro-cosmos of the body. According to KHA there are 14 micro-meridians and 345 acupuncture points on our hands which regulate the internal organs of human body, and thus help prevent diseases, maintain health and cure almost any conditions from musculoskeletal to internal, skin, etc.

Besides high effectiveness of the treatment KHA is also side effect free. It also lessens the side effects of medication or chemotherapy or radiological treatment mainly by building up the immune system.

Good news is that you can enjoy Korean Hand Acupuncture only with Don in New Zealand.

· UCLA Ear Acupuncture (unique in NZ)

Another unique feature of treatments with me is UCLA Ear Acupuncture. It's been systematized at Pain Management Center in UCLA Medical School, and it boasts of high effectiveness for a variety of conditions with no side effects such as weight control, smoking, pain management, hormonal imbalance, skin problems, and so forth. Come and enjoy this unique and amazing treatment only with Don in New Zealand.
